Generasi Y

Generation Y is mostly commonly described as Millennials and is a democratic cohort born between the early 1980s and the mid 1990s-early 2000s following Generation X. Generation Y grew up as a digital native who has seen the transition of switching to technology and adapting to it for daily use. With various unique characteristics and values, Millennials have an impact on the various societies, be it their workplace, social movements.

What is Generation Y?

Millennials is the term mostly used to describe Generation Y or Gen y, are the democratic cohort following Generation X and preceding Gen Z, born between early 1981-mid 1990 to 1996. The generation is known for witnessing the first era of internet and mobile devices.

What is the age of Generation Y?

The birth range of Generation Y is a matter of debate, but roughly considered Birth range is somewhere between early 1980s and mid 1990s till early 1996. The age range for the Gen Y can be estimated around 25 and 40 years old currently.

What are the characteristics of Generation Y?

Here are a few key characteristics of Generation Y:

  1. Flexible enough with the work: Gen Y are flexible with the work and the workspace they are working in. These people have started witnessing 9 to 5 jobs and have managed the work with balance.
  1. Work-life balance: Generation Y prefers spending time with their family and loved ones besides working and enhancing their skills in professional careers, and they have worked parallel on both sides and somehow mastered the skill of work-life balance.
  1. Tech-savvy: Gen Y asserted constant changes throughout their age, especially with technology and conquest to find answers to the questions online. Generation Y very well knows how to prompt their voices online through social media.
  1. Civic and social consciousness: Generation Y is explicitly seen as more concerned with global issues such as global warming, climate changes. They are more actively engaged in the cause to advocate further change.
  1. Entrepreneurial Spirit: Generational Y is noted for their entrepreneurial mindset. They are ready to take risks and come up with innovative ideas for personal and professional growth.
  2. Diversification: Generation Y seems more open-minded as they have seen the advent of accepting diversity of race, caste, and religion.

The values of generation Y can be outlined as

  3. Purpose in life
  1. Personal growth: Generation Y are considered to be the ones continuously learning, self-improving, and trying to seek new opportunities to grow their knowledge and experience.
  1. Collaborative: Generation Y are collaborative and have quite a desire to connect with others by building networks and teamwork, whether in person or virtual.
  1. Purpose in life: Generation Y tends to find meaning and purpose in personal lives parallel to their personal lives and finds opportunities that move around with the purpose of life and make a beneficial contribution.

Is Gen Y the same as millennials?

Yes, Gen Y and millennials are the same generational cohort. Both terms are used interchangeably throughout the demographic group between early the 1980s to mid-1990s(1994-6). Gen Y are also called Millennials because they became adults around the time of the millennium.

What is the difference between Generation Y and Generation X and Generation Z?

All the generations are referred to as varied generational cohorts, and each has witnessed different changes. Describing a brief about it:

Generation X, majorly referred to born between the mid-1960s early 1980s. They grew up during high social and economic changes, specifically during the Cold War era. Life of these people has never been easy. After the upheaval, searching for a job opportunity was quite challenging. These were also the people who experienced a revelatory increase in divorce rates.

Generation Y, also known as Gen Z, is the democratic cohort born between the early 1980s and 1990s. These were the major individuals who saw the transitional change brought by the advent of technology and the internet era. Yet they still displayed a more traditional mode of communication, such as phone calls or emails.

Generation Z, also known as gen z are the democratic cohort that comes after Generation Y or Millennials. It includes individuals born between the mid 1990s and early 2010s.Generation Z were the astute generation who has immersed in the digital era in their early age and tends to use immediate forms of communication such as instant messages, social media and video chatting and neglect interpersonal communication.

eNPS (pekerja skor Net Promoter) adalah salah satu cara yang paling mudah tetapi berkesan untuk menilai pendapat pekerja anda terhadap syarikat anda. Ia termasuk satu soalan menarik yang mengukur kesetiaan. Contoh soalan eNPS termasuk: Bagaimana kemungkinan anda mengesyorkan syarikat kami kepada orang lain? Pekerja bertindak balas terhadap kaji selidik eNPS pada skala 1-10, di mana 10 menandakan mereka 'berkemungkinan besar' untuk mengesyorkan syarikat dan 1 menandakan mereka 'sangat tidak mungkin' untuk mengesyorkannya.
